About Coastal Cleanup Day

Join H2om for Beach Cleanup Day.

Coastal Cleanup Day is an annual waterway and land cleanup held on the third Saturday of every September. This year, The California Coastal Commission announced that the 38th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 9am to Noon.

Coastal Cleanup Day is unique in that it is not only a countywide cleanup effort in San Diego, but it is part of an even large worldwide cleanup called International Coastal Cleanup Day! I Love A Clean San Diego has served as the official organizer of Coastal Cleanup Day in San Diego County since it was founded in 1985.

The event is a major part of International Coastal Cleanup, which is facilitated by The Ocean Conservancy and includes many U.S. states and territories, and over 70 countries. In California, data is reported to the California Coastal Commission as part of the international cleanup efforts.

By joining us in this event, you are joining hundreds of thousands of volunteers all over the world to remove pollution from our ecosystems!

About H2OM

About H2om.

H2OM is a startup retail brand born out of San Diego with a mission to keep our oceans and beaches clean. H2OM's CEO, Abby Brown, who is a lover of both people and the planet identified a crisis here in our own backyard. Devoted to her yoga practice and her longstanding relationship with the ocean, Brown wanted to turn this mindlessness into mindfulness by creating intentional products made entirely from recovered and recycled contents.

H2OM apparel currently caters to women in the activewear market, offering a variety of ocean inspired designs that are intended to make you stand out so you can stand up against the fight for a plastic free sea.

All H2OM products are sustainably made in the USA and only use the most trusted, 100% verified and highest quality recycled materials available.

H2OM will be offering the first 40 volunteers who complete the steps below with a FREE, high quality Beach Cleanup Bag. Note: This offer is ONLY valid at the Ocean Beach Pier Location cannot be used at any other Coastal Cleanup Location.

Through these cleanups, real change happens!

Volunteers all around the world are working for organizations (just like I Love A Clean San Diego) to make a difference. As a San Diego brand that was born out of the beach pollution crisis, H2OM is joining forces with our local community by forming an H2OM Beach Cleanup Team. Together, we are striving to clean up San Diego and inspire others to do the same.

After the cleanup, organizations such as ILACSD then submit the data collected from the cleanups to the Ocean Conservancy. From there, this data is compelled into the largest marine debris database in existence. That information is then used to help educate policy markers locally and globally!

At I Love A Clean San Diego, you will see dedicated site captains totaling all the information their individual volunteers gathered on the day. ILACSD will update their website to reflect how much litter was removed from our watersheds in just one day.

Help make this Coastal Cleanup the largest, most successful one yet by joining H2OM on their mission to keep the sea plastic and trash free!

Registration has opened and you can create a profile on ILACSD's Community Hub. To receive a FREE H2OM Beach Cleanup Bag, you must register at the Ocean Beach Pier Location as this offer is only valid for our Ocean Beach Pier Location.

As this is the largest organized beach cleanup event in California, supplies may be limited. Be sure to come prepared through the following options.

  1. If you missed the H2OM Beach Cleanup Bag promo code cutoff, you can still save 30% off any and all of your purchases. To shop, click on the H2OM logo at the top of your screen and use Promo Code CLEAN30 at checkout. This option will allow you to have supplies for any and all beach cleanups to come!
  2. Bring your own reusable supplies from around the house – items like litter buckets, litter grabbers, gardening gloves, and reusable water bottles.  Check out this Supply Guide to repurpose what you have around your house.

An important part of this event is collecting litter totals and weight estimates from all volunteers who participate! This data is key to implementing important habit changes, educating our county residents, and influencing policy changes. The location you clean up and litter totals you report will be shared on our website to track collective cleanup totals, all day long, countywide!
